Apron winner!

And the winner (chosen by random.org) is...

#6! Congrats to nopinkhere, one of my real-life, local friends!

nopinkhere's memory was, "I mostly remember licking spoons and bowls. I think that's because now I'm pretty anal about anything with raw eggs in it. And I think it's sad because even when it's something that's safe for licking (pudding), K doesn't want to do it!"

Giveaway--children's apron!

My mom is really a talented seamstress, and my kids benefit from that! Recently my mom found this free pattern for a fantastic children's apron. She made several and wants to give one away!

Here's Chickie modeling the apron (while baking with my mom, "Grammy.")

Photobucket

The neck strap is elasticised, and the waist strap is a Velcro(TM)-type closure, on the side so kids can put this apron on all by themselves. Adorable, huh?

The winner can choose from several fabrics. (Jellybeans no longer available!)

Here are the rules:

1. Open to U.S. readers and readers in other countries with reasonable international postal rates. (Reasonable as judged by yours truly--go ahead and enter if you're not sure.)
2. Leave a comment with a memory of time you spent in the kitchen as a kid. This is your entry--be sure it includes a way for me to contact you (blog link, e-mail address, etc.)
3. Tell everyone about this contest--feel free to post a link on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Make sure your friends let me know you referred them when they enter...and if someone you refer wins, you'll each get an apron! (Thanks, Mom!)
4. Winner will be chosen randomly on Sunday July 26, and announced that same day. I will attempt to contact the winner(s) that day, and I'll need to hear back from you with mailing address(es) by Monday at 12 noon (CST.) If I don't hear back from at least one winner by that time, I'll do a new drawing. The apron(s) will be sent out on Tuesday July 28.

Good luck!!

**I was not compensated in any way for this giveaway. My mom donated the prize and the shipping. For my disclosure policy, see this post.

iPod Touch...We have a winner!!

Well, we have a winner for the iPod Touch! I used the trusty integer generator at random.org. Here was the result.

Buffie!

Buffie won by following me on Twitter, which makes me feel good--I mean, if my Tweets aren't all wise or funny or compelling, at least she got an iPod Touch for following me, right?

Buffie, e-mail me at cbethblog (at) gmail (dot) com so we can talk details. (I accidentally typed that as "cbethblob" the first time--heh. My typos amuse me.)

Choffy Review

I recently connected with Amy L. Norton on Twitter. She's a sweetie, and when I checked out her blog, I clicked on a link to check out something she sells called Choffy.

Choffy is ground cacao beans--you know, the beans they use to make chocolate. But it doesn't have any extra ingredients (such as sugar.) You brew it like coffee. It's chock full of antioxidants, which is nice, and I was shocked to found out that cacao actually has little if any caffeine in it. It actually has theobromine in it, which is a gentler stimulant than caffeine. (I was skeptical but Googled it--apparently it's true!)

I was intrigued. But I didn't want to spend $20 ($15 plus $5 shipping) to buy 12 ounces of ground cacao beans when I didn't know if I'd care for it. Then I saw that Amy was offering free samples. Works for me. I contacted her, and the samples were in my mailbox a few days later. And I was shocked how generous she was with her samples--I got packets of the three varieties of Choffy, each enough to brew 24 ounces (six cups.) (I even found I preferred my Choffy a little weaker, so each of the last two packets were enough for eight cups.)

When I opened my first packet of Choffy, the smell was divine. If you love the smell of coffee, you know what I mean. Except it's better, because it's chocolate. The taste of the brew, however, I was less sure about. It definitely has a bitterness, similar to coffee. I add a lot of milk to mine, and if you add sugar to your coffee, you'll probably want to add it to your Choffy too.

A funny thing happened, though, as I got about halfway through my samples. I found myself really wanting to keep drinking the Choffy--almost craving it. It's not physically addictive like coffee is, but I think it is a bit of an aquired taste, and I guess I'm acquiring it! I still wish it was smoother without the unsweetened bitterness, but I'm really enjoying it--enough that I shelled out the $20 for my own Choffy, which I hope will be delivered next week. While the cost is more than I'd like, Amy told me she mixes hers with coffee. I may do that--it would be yummy and cost-effective.

To get your own samples of Choffy, you can check out this post on Amy's site. It tells you more about Choffy, and near the bottom you'll find her e-mail address. I've gotten her permission to share this with you, so I hope she's prepared to send out a bunch of samples!

Let me know what you think of Choffy!

**I was not compensated in any way for this giveaway. I was given a free sample of Choffy and chose, on my own, to blog about it. Amy Norton agreed to give any readers of my blog their own samples of Choffy, upon request. For my disclosure policy, see this post.

John Frieda Root Awakening Shampoo/Conditioner (Review)

I'm a member of BzzAgent, a cool site where I can get free or discounted products. I'm asked to spread buzz about the products I try. They tell me to be honest.

I'm trusting that they really do want me to be honest, so...here goes!

I was sent full-sized bottles of the new John Frieda Root Awakening Shampoo and Conditioner. I chose the Nourishing Moisture variety.
Here's the thing. After I started using it, I got a rash on my neck and shoulders. When I stopped using it, the rash went away. I don't know if it was caused by the shampoo and conditioner or not, but I think it's the most likely culprit.
So, I passed it along to my husband. He has liked it just fine. It doesn't really "stand out" to him compared to other shampoos and conditioners...but he also doesn't have a rash, so that's a plus! The line has eucalyptus in it, which is supposed to provide a refreshing, tingling sensation. Both The Engineer and I found the tingle to be very mild. We both did like the scent, which works for men or women.
I'm guessing the rash thing is a rare side effect or else I doubt this would be on store shelves. I do have some small samples of the shampoo and conditioner--I believe the samples are for the Strenth Restoring line. I'd be happy to send those out to readers who live in the U.S.--just e-mail me at cbethblog (at) gmail (dot) com, and if I have any left, I'll send you one so you can try it yourself!

**I received my John Frieda samples with the understanding that I would use word-of-mouth marketing to honestly share my opinion on the products. By participating in BzzAgent, I can be offered future free samples as a reward for passing along my honest opinions about the samples I am sent. For my disclosure policy, see this post.
