Psst...Be sure to keep reading 'til the end for a chance to win a $100 Visa Debit gift card! We've all heard the old adage, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!" We're warned in dire terms not to skip it. Well, I don't need any convincing! I'm usually hungry soon after waking up. And if I get too hungry, I get grumpy. So the kids and I hardly ever skip breakfast.
Occasionally I make pancakes or waffles for breakfast, but most of the time I just like breakfast to be easy. If you're a regular reader, you know I love cooking...but not at 7 a.m.! So if we have a big breakfast (eggs, bacon, biscuits...mmmm) it's more likely to be "breakfast for dinner." In the morning, we try to strike a balance between convenience and health.
For Chickie and me, that usually involves cold cereal with milk. I grew up eating a lot of cold cereal, and I love the huge variety that's out there. We usually get into a routine (or a rut?) with one or two cereals, and occasionally we switch which cereals we're eating. We don't usually eat very sugary cereals, but we do like cereals with a bit of sweetness. It's gotta taste good! And whole grains are a big plus when I'm choosing cereals.
Here's a one-minute video of Chickie talking about the cereal she had for breakfast.
Thankfully cereal can be a good way to get a healthy breakfast. You can read more on the health benefits of cereal at www.loveyourcereal.com.
And here's a confession--we use whole milk. Not 2%, certainly not skim...whole milk. When Chickie turned one, we switched from 2% to whole, and I discovered I love that creamy goodness! Even though both kids are old enough to drink 2% now (and they probably wouldn't care), Mama likes the stuff with 4% fat!
Zoodle sometimes eats cereal, but he's much more of a granola bar kid. He usually has a couple of them for breakfast. He sometimes seems to be the most hungry of all of us...probably because he usually turns his nose up at whatever I make for dinner, so by the next morning he's famished!
By the time the kids and I are getting breakfast, The Engineer is usually leaving for work, or he's at the gym. So breakfast is usually a very casual affair with the kids and me. I catch up on email, blogs, and Twitter, and the kids watch some sort of educational TV show. Our family mealtime is at dinner.

I love cereal for breakfast too! I've been eating it for years... For as long as I can remember.
I don't really have a breakfast routine...although with school starting up again, I'll be getting back into one!

Because my husband isn't home before the kids go to bed at night, breakfast is our family meal time. We like variety, so we switch it up a lot - scrambled eggs and veggies, quinoa with yogurt and fruit, cold cereal with yogurt, smoothies and toast, oatmeal... I can't imagine skipping breakfast, I'm so stinking hungry when I wake up!
Here is the blog I just wrote
http://heidisathome.blogspot.com/2010/08/oops.html
I'm a huge fan of breakfast foods, but (like you) am not a huge fan of cooking first thing in the morning. I like to make a big batch of waffles and then stick them in the freezer, so all I have to do in the morning is pop them in the toaster.
My kids aren't huge breakfast fans so they generally drink a smoothie made with bananas, strawberries, juice, and ground flax seed
I tend to always eat the same cold cereal for breakfast with half a banana. I started making my own pancake mix from scratch relatively recently, and now that it's so much quicker to make them (and to make just how much I want) I make fresh pancakes at least once a week. K especially likes apple cinnamon ones. My husband usually has cereal or a cinnamon raisin english muffin. For K, I make a cheesy scrambled egg (with BBQ sauce for dipping) and leftover pancakes or toaster waffles. M eats some of K's plus some fruit.
I eat mostly cold cereal for breakfast, but occationally I will have a toaster waffle. My son loves toaster waffles, they are his favorite breakfast.
I usually grab something and eat a semi-late breakfast at my desk at work. Daddy takes care of the kiddos, typically with cereal or scrambled eggs! :)
I usually just have a banana and yogurt, but make sure that my boys have something more - like cereal or a waffle with fruit. My husband makes a big batch of waffles and we will eat them all week!

Peanut usually has either cereal (typically some kind of Chex since they are gluten-free and the hubby can eat it too) or oatmeal...with a chaser of toast about an hour later (since she's still hungry).
For me? I grab whatever I can (usually toast). :)
Well, We all eat different things at my house.I have to drink diet shakes for breakfast,my husband likes bacon and eggs and my son has food allergies so he is limited on what he can eat.

Our breakfast time is similar to yours. Cold cereal, or easy stuff like pop tarts, granola bars, etc. Sometimes I have a couple hard boiled eggs and turkey bacon.
I don't usually use twitter, just facebook, but I posted this on there - hope that counts!!!

While my husband showers, I nurse our little girl, then while I get ready, he takes her downstairs and give her her cereal. I usually come downstairs during this and pop either bread or a bagel into the toaster for the husband and me to grab on the way out the door.

Weekday mornings are quite crazy in our house. I usually nurse the baby in between getting me and my toddler ready. My toddler gets a bag of cereal to eat in the car on the way to daycare and hubby and I grab something that we can eat while driving (muffin, bagel, etc). Thankfully our daycare does provide breakfast so my toddler gets another, real breakfast at daycare.
we have the same three things. Fruit loops, Oatmeal, or pancakes.
We usually have cereal, oatmeal or granola bar.

Usually, I'll have a poptart, cereal, waffle, or bagel.
I know I know.
So healthy, right? ;)
Breakfast during the week is usually a granola bar or some dry cereal after I settle in at work. Anything else seems tough on my tummy. Love the video of Chickie!

We've been eating Vitatop muffins quite a bit- I order the mix from Amazon and make them in my muffin top pans- much much cheaper than buying them pre-made.

I am so NOT a morning person! For breakfast I eat a Special K Bar (Strawberry) at my desk every single work day. Much easier than trying to grab something before I leave for work.
I feed the children their breakfast and them by about 11a.m. I decide I should probably eat something too...not a good routine, but it's how we get by...
My husband wakes up early and eats oatmeal in front of the tv. I, on the other hand, grab something as I'm running out the door.

I eat the same every morning egg white, turkey sausage link on a 100 calorie bagel! I eat cereal for dinner I bet twice a week- Yum! Now I am hungry!
Love Chickie's breakfast interview! For breakfast I used to just grab some fruit and coffee but since I am pregnant I need EGGS and lots of them!
I'm working on focusing on a bigger breakfast- trying to get more calories in the morning and less in my dinner time meal. So I'm trying to find ways to increase protein and fruit. Eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, fruit, whole grain english muffin. However, on days when I don't want to prep stuff, cereal and milk for me, too! And I am totally a whole milk gal.

I always eat a bagel with cream cheese. My daughter always has a bowl of cereal. We got all out around here! ;)
When we wake up it's usually oatmeal with fruit, milk, and honey. Sometimes I put sprinkles on it for a special feel. For me it's a spinach and egg white omlet, banana and whole wheat toast with soy nut butter spread and honey. A well rounded healthy way to start the day.

We are a cereal family. It's almost embarrassing how many boxes of cereal we have at any one time in our cupboard. I guess you could say, we like variety!
We usually eat cereal during the week.
On the weekends we like to make homemade pancakes or cinnamon rolls!!
We have pretty standard breakfasts around here.
1. Oatmeal with cream, fruit & brown sugar.
2. Buckwheat pancakes with molasses.
or
3. Millet & honey & fruit.
That's about the range we cover.
We usually eat toast or an English muffin. Boring! :)

Breakfast for me is plain oatmeal w/half a cup of vanilla yogurt stirred in. For everyone else it's a fend for yourself meal. Usually cereal, breakfast bars, fruit, frozen waffles, and eggs are available.
My routine is just rush rush rush. I have tried to come up with a real routine, but we have to get up early for a long commute to school and then to work. This year, I vow to come up with a more streamlined routine.

My husband and I aren't morning people, so we usually miss breakfast. We eat it for dinner sometimes!
We have breakfast every morning -- it's a staple in our house. I grew up eating mostly cereal for breakfast, but now we eat hot breakfasts -- pancakes, muffins, granola, oatmeal, and sometimes egg dishes... all from scratch. My husband even enjoys breakfast now :)
We don’t really have a breakfast routine… most times, breakfast at my house is just a bowl of cereal or pop tarts!

Keep it simple - toaster waffles and boxes of cereal!
I work 1st shift and my hubby works 2nd shift. He usually takes care of getting the kids breakfast in the summer. During school they get a hot breakfast at school. At home it's usually a quick breakfast in the mornings but we try to do a big nice breakfast on the weekend. angiewith3 at live dot com

I eat yogurt, fruit or PB&J's most times! Easy for a commuter like me :)
Well ... my family is just two ... my hubby and myself. So our morning routine is to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy our backyard for a few minutes before starting our day (we work from home). And that's about it. We don't typically eat breakfast but sometimes on a weekend we make a brunch ... that's a lot of fun and relaxing when we have the time.
I grew up eating cold cereal for breakfast on weekdays and big family breakfasts on the weekends (biscuits and gravy, waffles, etc.). Nowadays I gravitate towards eggs and toast as long as I have time to cook something. It's a bit more filling than cold cereal and I don't feel overstuffed like I would with a heavier breakfast.
Oh my goodness, such a cute video! We usually grab cereal, fruit, milk. On weekends eggs and pancakes are more likely ;) Thanks!

Breakfast is help-yourself around here. The cereal is in a low cupboard so even the little kids can reach it.
WE eat toast, cereal and everyone once in a while pancakes when Momma wakes up early.
For breakfast, I usually have coffee and...coffee. (On really special days, I'll add cream.)
1. grab milk for toddler and change diaper
2. make coffee
3. throw frozen pancake/waffle in toaster for toddler
4. hope to have a few moments to drink coffee while toddler eats!

We don't really have a routine right now because I'm home and he's not in school yet but he'll be starting this month and hoepfully I'll be working soon. I'm guessing that cereal or some kind of frozen homemade waffles/pancakes will be the main staple then.

I work 2nd shift so I sometimes don't go to bed until 3am. Needless to say, mornings consist of my husband calling and yelling into the answering machine to wake me up so I can get our daughter up and going for school...then I sit on the couch in a stupor until she leaves...it's cereal all the way for breakfast because if I try to use the stove, I'd set the house on fire, for sure.
I have a huge pet peeve about eating before school..if she skips breakfast I feel like the world's worst mommy so there's a lot of me yelling to "EAT SOMETHING" in the morning as she's trying to get ready. Even a granola bar eases my mom-guilt.

My son’s typical breatfast is yogurt, fruit and a poptart, or McDonald’s. My morning breakast is 2 sausage and egg burritos from McDonald’s every morning, and about 4-5 cups of coffee :)
On the weekends, if he’s home I may make breakfast (pancakes or omlettes) or we’ll go out for brunch @ Cracker Barrel :)

We like cinnamon sugar toast and cereal almost every morning for breakfast.

It's usually some cereal and fruit.
I'm not much of a breakfast eater, but hubby is a dedicated cereal eater! We usually have upwards of 10 different cereal varieties in the house. Thanks for the great giveaway!
