We had a great summer--especially the 2 1/2 week trip we took in August to visit my parents and my husband's parents! These were some of the highlights of that trip:
Playing in the ocean
Waves tickling toes
Love for Grammy & Sampa
Grows and grows and grows
Time with Mom and Dad
Was a treat for me,
Plus time with my old friends
And with my cute hubby.
In northern California
We got a needed break
From humid summer weather
(And Hubs swam in a lake!)
When Grandma played with them,
The kids had so much fun!
And Grandpa's blueberry pancakes?
Zoodle ate a ton!
The memories we make
On trips to see the fam
Make me very thankful
Of just how blessed I am!
I've been thinking about breakfast lately because of this blog series. While we had a few special breakfasts during our trip (like donuts and those fantastic blueberry pancakes), most mornings we stuck to easy, healthy options like cereal.
Thankfully both sets of grandparents had a nice variety of cereals for us to choose from. My in-laws had a box of Kellogg's Corn Flakes that had some pictures of old-style Kellogg's Corn Flakes trucks, and those pictures really caught Zoodle's attention! He kept asking for "the truck cereal." I wasn't sure if Corn Flakes would be an interesting enough flavor for his discriminating toddler palate, but he liked them!
My husband happened to turn on a documentary on cereal while we were in California, and I learned that Kellogg's Corn Flakes was the first cold cereal ever produced. It's pretty cool to see that after all these years, it's still popular...and it's even tasty enough for a two-year-old!

The hightlight of my summer was kayaking among the migrating shorebirds in Cape Breton. They didn't mind my presence at all. I was able to sit quietly among them when my boat beached on their sandbar and get lots of beautiful photographs. ~karen
vacation with my extended family in south carolina!
I was able to enjoy the great weather with my 9 month old twin girls! WE found out they LOVE the water and spent as much time as possible in the pool and the lake! They looked adorable in their matching swimsuits and floaties..I could not ask for a better summer as a first time mom!
We loved to make our own granola. We would have as a quick summer breakfast...yogurt, homemade granola, and fresh strawberries. MMM good.
We went to Carolina Beach for a short fun-filled weekend and enjoyed it, it was our first trip there

One particularly fun memory was this weekend with the girls at the state fair. I gave my niece my camera and let her take all the pictures that she wanted. I ended up with pictures of every single rabbit, chicken, and baby goat at the fair.
Swedish pancake breakfast eaten sitting out on the deck was also a hit.

Our favorite memories are all kept in journals we did all summer! We have illustrations and a few words of what we did! It is so neat to look back over it all (zoo, park, moving to a new state, vacation, etc) It made it so easy to bring all those fun summer memories back!

Our entire family got together at my brother's house for a cookout/game night. We had a blast laughing and talking. Money was tight this year for all of us and nobody took a vacation but it was much more fun to just enjoy each other's company. I laughed so much that night my face hurt from smiling.

The most memorable moment of my summer was when my 12yo son hit a home-run (the first of several) during his baseball playoffs. More than 100 teams entered the tournament (double-elimination) and our team from rural Monroe, OR, made it up to the top six. At the end of the season, my son was named Most-Improved and MVP of his team.
